Afghanistan registered their second win of the 2023 World Cup on Monday after comfortably defeating Pakistan by eight wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Supreme Pakistan See Off New Zealand To Seal Final Berth

Afghanistan captain Shahidi, who was delighted to end the winning streak, said the win, which ended their seven-game losing streak against Pakistan, “tastes sweet”.

Veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi said that this win was bigger than the win against England earlier in the tournament.

“This victory is sweet. The manner in which we were pursued was very professional. I am looking forward to other games. Today we will repeat the same way we chased,” Shahidi said at the post-match show on Monday.

The quality of cricket we have played in the last two years, that belief was there even during the Asia Cup.

India Thump England For Sixth Successive Win

“At the start of the tournament I said we want to make this tournament historic for the people of our country. First England, today Pakistan; I am looking forward to other games. We will try our best to play positive cricket and do a lot for our country in this World Cup.

According to their captain Babar Azam, Afghanistan put in an all-round effort against Pakistan, who lacked bowling and fielding.

Afghanistan’s spin team, as expected, excelled on the Chennai track, with only Mujeeb ur Rehman finishing with an economy of more than six. The rest of the spinners – Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmed and Nabi – leaked just three or four runs in their respective 10-over spells.

“The spin bowling department has done very well. We gave Noor a chance and believed in him and showed his talent. The way Gurbaz and Ibrahim started the innings gave them momentum and confidence. The game was in our hands from start to finish. The last partnership between Rahmat and I was also good,’ said the Afghan captain.

“This is a great moment for the whole team, but also for the whole of Afghanistan. We have been waiting for the last 10-12 years. We played almost eight matches against Pakistan and won a big event,” Nabi said in an interview after the match.

“It’s a great result for the boys. We have worked hard for the last three months. We played the series against Pakistan, then the Asia Cup and then we came here for the World Cup. It’s a beautiful moment today.”

In the 2023 Cricket World Cup points table, Afghanistan has moved up to the sixth position, while Pakistan remains at the fifth position.

With the remaining group matches against South Africa, Bangladesh, New Zealand and England, going to the semi-finals now looks difficult. While South Africa and New Zealand are in excellent form, England are the reigning champions.

Chasing a target of 273 runs, India reached the target in just 35 overs, thanks to a world record century by captain Rohit Sharma. Earlier, impressive half-centuries from Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai helped Afghanistan post a decent score of 272/8 in 50 overs. Jasprit Bumrah took 4 wickets for 39 runs in 10 overs for the Men in Blue.

India will aim for a second consecutive win as Afghanistan look to make their mark in the 2023 ODI World Cup. The Men in Blue started their season with a huge win against Australia in Chennai. Meanwhile, Afghanistan got off to a dull start to their campaign with a loss to Bangladesh.

This is only the second match between India and Afghanistan in the World Cup. India won the thriller by 11 runs in 2019, the only instance between the two teams. India will be wary of Afghanistan, who have world-class spinners like Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Zadran. Sign up to our free sports newsletter for all the latest news from cycling to boxing. And once again, the knockout blow was delivered by Australia, whose ability to rise to the occasion on limited-overs cricket’s biggest stage is unmatched – and in stark contrast to South Africa.

Dallas, Florida And New York To Host Matches In Men’s T20 World Cup Next Year

A word synonymous with South Africa at the World Cup, perhaps a harsh one – suffered a tense three-wicket defeat at Eden Gardens on Thursday.

However, this was their fifth semi-final exit in the tournament after 1992, 1999, 2007 and 2015. All three of those painful exits have now come at the hands of Australia.

In ’99, South Africa’s downfall came in a chaotic final at Edgbaston, England, capped by that famous Allan Donald run-out stranding that allowed Australia to advance to a draw.

In 2007, they fell to 27-5 in St Lucia after opting to bat and eventually lost by seven wickets with 111 balls to spare.

Indian Team For World Cup Final Match 2023

Faced with excellent swing and bowling from Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, the Proteas lost captain Temba Bavuma (0) in the first over, sitting at 10-2 after eight overs after the dangerous Quinton de Kock was dismissed. 3, before collapsing to 24-4 after the departure of Aiden Markram (10) and Rassie van der Dussen (6).

David Miller, with a determined innings of 101, guided the team to a low but was eventually bowled out for a respectable 212, but a near-flawless performance in the field was needed to push the Australians back.

In the third over of the reply, pacer Marco Jansen bowled three wides in the four-ball arc that left the South African fans in the crowd shaking their heads.
